Geographical Area and Performance Venues
Local 353 serves an area encompassing the cities of Artesia, Cerritos, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Long Beach, and Signal Hill, and portions of Bellflower, Compton, Dominguez, La Mirada, Norwalk, Paramount, and Seal Beach. Its operational presence in these communities lights pathways to the employment of musicians through their civic, cultural, social, and business organizations. Area performance venues include the Long Beach Center for the Performing Arts (Terrace Theater, Center Theater, and Arena), Carpenter Center, Queen Mary, Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, and numerous hotels, restaurants, and clubs.
Association Leadership
The Executive Board sets policy, manages the Association’s general activities in accordance with the Bylaws, and allocates the application of resources in pursuit of the Association’s Objectives. Executive Board members, elected biennially, include the President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, Trustee, and two Directors. The Office staff and Committees conduct the day-to-day business operations and special projects. Committees include Marketing & Employment, Publicity & Public Relations, Wage Scales, Legislative & Tempo, Membership & Recruiting, Bylaws & Policies, Electronic Media, and the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra Committee.
Member Participation
Members are encouraged (but not required) to participate in the direction of the Association through attendance at its meetings, service on committees, and - for those so inclined - the pursuit of elective office. Decisions and direction of the Association, conducted through these democratic processes, address the priorities of the members. Communication is conducted within the membership via the Members’ Area of this website, regular meetings, networking, and the Association’s newsletter, Notes from the Board.
