General Membership Meeting Notice

  • Long Beach Symphony Orchestra - The agreement for a one-year extension of the current contract has been ratified.
  • Wage Scales - As previously reported, the Local 353 Wage Scale Book was revised effective April 21 and mailed to Marketing Program participants April 21. Scales in other Southern California Locals have also been changed. Leaders and Contractors: please ascertain that you have the latest before contracting.
  • AFM Locals’ Conferences Council - Local 353 Secretary-Treasurer Paul Castillo, as President of the Professional Musicians of California Conference, will attend the Council’s July 26-27 meeting in Las Vegas.
  • Long Beach Opera - Artistic & General Manager Andreas Mitisek has announced that the Opera’s 30th Anniversary Season, just ended, was an outstanding one, “...selling out every performance...” Next season, beginning January 2010, will include three operas, "The Good Soldier Schweik,” “Nixon in China,” and “Orpheus & Euridice.”
  • LBSO Committee
    Regular election for committee membership is scheduled to be conducted in October. The Committee serves to protect and advance the common professional interests of the Orchestra members through internal Orchestra communication, liaison with the Union, and as participants in negotiations of the Master Agreement with the Long Beach Symphony Association.
  • Regional Orchestra Players' Association (ROPA)
    Leslie Lashinsky will represent LBSO members at this year’s Conference to be held August 4-6 in Dayton, Ohio. Also, LBSO Committee Chair Joe Stone will attend the “Negotiations” session preceding the Conference.
  • Free Classified Advertising
    Members may offer goods or services for sale to the public via the new section, Classified.  It’s FREE! Limit 50 words or less.
  • Health Insurance
    The Local 353 self-pay insurance plans offer several choices: Health Net HMO, Health Net PPO, or Kaiser Permanente. Please call the Office to learn details of the plans and to make application. With today’s high costs of medical care, this is the way to go for those who do not qualify for employer-paid plans.
  • Leaders and Solo Engagement Musicians
    If you’re not in the Marketing Program yet, don’t let another day go by! Just send your Marketing Agreement and latest promo materials - photos, text sales pitch, telephone number and website address, as applicable, to us. Please Email materials to afmmusic@musicians353.org, indicating, “For AFM Music” in the subject line; or, you may send physical copies of your materials to the Local 353 Office. We’ll take it from there. Don't miss out on this no-cost service that is exclusively for Local 353 members! If you have questions, please call the Office.
  • Returned Check Policy
    A fee of $25 shall be charged to any member who submits a check that is returned to the Local 353 Office unpaid.
